Canyon Pass at Dove Mnt. 101

The design concept for this unique residence was to create a minimalist desert pavilion that maximizes the use of indoor/outdoor Iiving. The architecture hearkens back to early modernist designs such as Mies van der Rohe' s Barcelona Pavilion or Wrights Usonian Homes, while still creating architecture that is contemporary for today's user. The home is a juxtaposition of rectilinear spaces articulated along a connecting open spine. The spine allows the spaces to flow both indoor and out by use of the sliding glass walls. 

The home is nestled at the base of several rock outcroppings that create a natural barrier from the public road just on the opposite side of the beams. The edge of the desert blends seamlessly with the home, dissolving the distinction between home and desert and completely immersing it into its environment. The use of exposed masonry as the solid structural masses and thin horizontals of the roof complement the desert site.
